Urge to kill... fading...
Jun. 11th, 2003 02:35 pmI'm supposed to be working, but I've spent most of the day in e-mail trying to mollify Vashti's player. Vashti was killed by a combination of several factors.
The first is poor tactics, or more accurately poor coordination -- Vashti ran into the middle of an open area so that enemies would focus on her and the mages could toss fireballs (she was a half-fiend, resistant to fire). Fireballs failed to ensue.
The second is bad luck. While trying to escape the cluster of un-fireballed guards she got critted twice.
The third is a cursed item that he doesn't think he should have figured out -- after all, they had a temple identify it for them. It lowered her AC dramatically -- if it had been what it appeared, she would have been hit once while escaping and not at all before that.
After her death, she was immediately looted by other party members, even though they people they were working for had promised to raise them or whatever if they needed it. That didn't make him happy either.
Anyway, I pointed out the benefits of reincarnation, and that she wouldn't be *that* far behind the rest of the party since she'd just levelled up, and suggested she sell the cursed ring to another party member, since obviously 'AC wasn't doing enough for her to justify the expense'.
Gaaah. Death sucks. This wouldn't have happened if we were playing World Tree. };)
(because we'd still be working through the second big battle in the underdark... [cough])
