Today was what turned out, somewhat to my surprise, to be the last session of Murdock's BESM game. It was kinda pointless, but had some nice imagery.

Initial experiments done by filtering sunlight onto the lens with fiber optics proved ineffective, so the lens was airlifted to a remote mountain peak for further experimentation. In addition to the party, many guards and others were on hand to ensure that it didn't fall back into the hands of the enemy.

By pointing it directly at the sun, the party managed to get the lens to make a pitch black ball of darkness hover in midair in front of it. The ball slowly grew as the day went on, until it was as wide across as the gigantic lens, at which point Umbra decided to risk touching it, and blotted out the sun.

Close inspection revealed that although it was night, suddenly, and apparently across the entire world, the sun was still visible as a tiny star in the sky... and as a miniature trapped inside the lens. Nathaniel was distressed by this and tried spinning the lens around to free the sun -- which worked, except when during its spin it pointed in the proper direction, at which point the sun was momentarily trapped again -- a creepy strobe effect.

At that point, the werewolf girl who'd been captured earlier walked up, apparently invited by Tishiro, their boss, and while the party was asking what the hell was up with that, she pointed the crystal in the direction of sunset and whisked them all away to a world of eternal night.

At least, she whisked herself and the party -- not Tishiro or the guards.

The world of her ancestors was fairly odd. It was (as previously noted) always night. The moon was huge, and had a large hole in it. And all the inhabitants were statues, with their spirits tethered nearby. The werewolf was extremely distressed by this, and by the caucasian and asian and others not of her tribe which were seen in the village.

Various attempts to wake the statues failed, and then a giant ghostly airplane flew up for no apparent reason, but couldn't be touched or ridden in. The party followed it back to the ruins of an airport, where whatsisname with the gun started digging holes in the ground, unearthing a giant, alien machine.

Leaving him to his work, Umbra and Nathaniel returned to check on werewolf chick, who'd found a spirit to speak to. The spirit told her to take them to the crystal in this world, since everyone had been turned into statues trying to use it to go home to Earth.

So she did, and they set about disassembling the crystal -- which was an odd spikey outcropping rather than a lens -- then reassembling it at random. Parts of it that were moved glowed bright white, until finally a beam of light shot from the hole in the moon, striking the village. The party rushed back.

In the village, the statues were all still statuey, but a metal thingie -- like an umbrella mounted on a cone -- started rising out of the ground. Nathaniel decided to touch it to see if it was incorporeal like the airplane, and vanished. Guess not!

The others followed, and they found themselves in Mexico again. After quizzing the natives about other people wandering out of the desert ("Yeah, but they're all crazy. Like you.") they returned home to file their final report. And in Umbra's case, fake his own narrow escape from captivity, since being 'kidnapped' was the only way he'd kept his father off his case for gallivanting around the world.

last week next session, different game

Now we're supposed to make characters for Lazar's next game -- restricted to a half dozen races, young and still in school, second or worse sons or daughters of nobility, with ties to the underworld. I don't have any great ideas right now, since I wasn't even considering that we'd end the BESM game so abruptly, but I'm sure I'll come up with something.
