Tonight was Murdock's BESM game. It went a lot better tonight, especially since a question about the duration of his 'dynamic sorcery' made Umbra and the GM actually *look* at the description of the power, and Umbra mentioned a severe limitation on it -- namely, that it was restricted to a specific idiom, in his case 'necromancy' -- that he'd been essentially ignoring, at least in the last session where he really went wild blowing shit up and otherwise doing everything under the sun.

He still ended up basically carrying the party, because intangibility and invisibility are ludicrously powerful, but anyone could have bought those two powers for relatively cheap. Although making them usable both on self and on others would have been a bit harder. Also, he'll probably continue to be overpowered given a power like that, because Lazar is always very... creative in his interpretations of limitations.

Yeah, it annoys me, kinda, like Louis and his dice that always roll at least 19, but it's not a big deal, and Lazar generally tries not to steal the entire show, when he's paying attention.

Umbra, Nathaniel, and... er... that other guy who doesn't do much because, lacking magic, he's utterly ineffective while intangible, spent a week watching the were-thingies gather up the pieces of the crystal. They weren't very good at hiding and spotting, but they were always able to scurry off and evade the people who saw them.

The were-thingies finished gathering a little before the army arrived, but with a few (dozen) mental suggestions that they take *extra care* in packing their stuff (that box of fetishes should really be aphabetized...), their departure was delayed enough for the attack to catch them.

During the attack, the party hovered invisible and intangible over the cart with the crystal shards in it, protecting it from undue harm with Nathaniel's force shield, until it took a tank round which the shield couldn't stop. Without the shield, the mules and drivers were quickly shot to bits, and Umbra got an idea.

"I have an armband that greatly increases strength! Nathaniel, you're really strong already in your griffon --"

Oops! He said the magic word. So there was no choice but to try his plan. He fasted the armband around Nathaniel's foreleg, then ended the intangibility spell, and the griffon dug her claws into the sides of the damaged wagon... and splintered the wood as she badly underestimated her own strength. So she decided to get out and push, towards the soldiers, who were shooting at her all the while, although not very effectively as she had bulletproof feathers.

When the tanks started aiming their cannons, though, Umbra decided Nathaniel had done enough and turned her intangible again, and invisible, and she circled around the battlefield until the fight was over. The three followed the crate to the army's warehouse, where they performed the ritual to change Nathaniel back into a human, and called their home base to arrange for retrieval of the crystals from the Mexican Army through diplomatic channels. Easy enough, since the army didn't really care about them.

The crystals were shipped UPS, and so, not trusting the were-thingies not to interfere, the party followed them all the way back in the cargo holds of various planes. After scaring off a curious employee by threatening him over his nonexistant cellphone, the crates were escorted safely to the antique shop... and somewhat to the party's surprise, despite the fact that they'd guarded them all the way back, the crystals were still inside.

In short order (about three days) the lens was reassembled, and at long last they'd be able to see what it did.

last week next week

After the game I lacked the mental discipline not to pray that the inspection had gone smoothly, so when I got home I discovered that, in fact, it had -- or at least, no complaint was left on my door -- but the bathtub was *still* clogged from that morning. Argh!
