Lazar's game again tonight... I was only half awake through the whole thing, unfortunately, and when I got home I was still only half awake, and couldn't watch the shows I had taped (I'll watch them tomorrow). I'm awake enough to write this update before I forget what happened, though. With ice-cream assistance.

I think I'm coming down with a cold. Pretty soon I'm going to have to close the windows and turn on the heater, for the winter, but I'd like to put it off as long as possible, since having the windows open means I can breathe. Air is good.

Anyway...
Last session ended with us driving to NYC on a new job, to kidnap 'Professor Aquilas' from the Graves Corporation section of the rebuilt World Trade Center. This session started with us getting the actual details -- basically, our employer didn't know anything, but had been contacted by a disgruntled employee who wanted to cause damage and get paid off. We were supposed to meet him for lunch in the cafeteria on the 100th floor.

So we dropped off Fukachan, bought some business attire, and headed up just in time to see him escorted into the food preparation area by security. Figuring he'd made a scene and was being yelled at (him being disgruntled) we decided to wait for him to come back out, but after an hour passed with no sign of him we decided to go in and see what was up.

And by 'we', I of course mean 'me', since I'm the only member of the party who *ever* takes any risks. NKN (the mage) at least got off her tail for long enough to cast a 'I belong here' spell on me (since I'm not exactly a master of disguise).

Anyway, after a bit of petty sabotage to create a distraction, I scooted into the kitchen and found, behind the grills and freezers, a bunch of security offices, in one of which our contact was being held by two Mitsuhama security goons. I hung around and listened in for a while, and followed one of the goons when he went to report to his boss, but all I found out was that they were planning to hold him there all day, and that something fishy was up. So I knocked on the door, sucker-punched the other guard, stole his uniform, and scooted out of there with the guy.

The guy had a lot of info on how to get in to see Aquilas, but wanted a huge bribe, more than we were being paid for the mission. We talked him down a bit, and let him lead us through the outer security to the main security room, which was sparsely populated... there was only one guard on duty (it was still lunch time, more or less) and he was asleep. So we ignored him, let Nazir hax0r their b0xen, and headed downstairs, doped up to the gills so as not to trigger the heat-sensitive poison gas trap, or the 200 auto-tracking laser guns.

Unfortunately, we hadn't been able to get a reading on where Aquilas was, and when we tried to question one of the scientists in his work area, we managed to raise the suspicions of both the researcher in question and the AI that had been pestering us (and that we'd been brushing off). We stopped the scientist from tripping an alarm (by grabbing his hand), and Nazir locked him in the elevator when he stormed off to contact security directly.

The AI, of course, was Aquilas, aka 'Steven Hawking'. And the massive computers filling the room were his 'body'. So, shooting him with a sleep ray, shrinking him, and stuffing him in my briefcase of holding was right out, and we had to go with plan B, convincing him that he wanted to leave.

He basically told us that he'd be happy to leave if we could get him an actual body, since he missed having a body, even though his old one had been crippled. Normally, this would be a simple task for any half-way competent mage -- we'd just bind his spirit to the new body. Unfortunately, there was no spirit present in the computers... the AI was just a simulation of a human intelligence. Which meant that we'd need to do it the hard way, and actually construct a portable network capable of running the simulation.

Not something to do on the spot, and not something possible with Earth technology. With left the magic of the other world, Ur. NKN contacted her 'sister' -- her counterpart in the other world, with which she shares a soul -- and told her to start looking into it. So we told Aquilas that we'd see what we could do and get back to him, kidnapped the scientist who'd tried to raise the alarm (sleep ray, shrink spell, into briefcase), paid off our informant, and took off.

There was some sort of confusion with the computers in the getaway van, but I was busy hallucinating from the aftereffects of all the drugs I'd taken, so I didn't really pay much attention to it. It probably wasn't important.
