Last night, after two weeks off (one because Lazar was sick, one because everyone wanted to watch the Watchmen instead) we finally got around to playing Shadake again. It was a kind of half-assed session, to tell the truth.

After spending the day on mostly unsuccessful shopping (except for Takara, who's probably very rich by this point) and somewhat successful alchemy, the party drank the pink fizzy potions to take out the port with barrels of defective gunpowder, as they'd been asked to do by Itsaboy's boss for some reason. Mr. Stravinsky.

Vesperian and Itsaboy were sent away before nightfall, since they no longer had the protection of the assassin's guild against Crisium's dreamtime torture and they only had enough pink fizz for the core party.

Unfortunately, as they approached the port just before nightfall, the barrels hidden in a rented cart so that they could get them close without attracting attention, they saw that Crisium's forces were locking it down -- they hadn't done this the last time they'd come to rob the port, probably because of the zombie attack. But Takara was sneaky and could be small (she could turn into a cat) and snuck into the port, with instructions to change back and let them in after everyone (else) fell asleep.

Unfortunately, when night finally fell, not everyone fell asleep. Takara came back out sneakily to report a single guard inside the port, walking around awake. Nico flew around to look for more, but wasn't as sneaky, and got spotted by one of the dozens of guards patrolling the city -- from far enough off that he could just keep flying and get away, at least. There was no *immediate* alarm raised, but at least one guard knew people were moving around...

Still, they had a mission, so Takara let them into the port and they unloaded the barrels, using the 'miracle cream' on the barrels themselves to float them around a few feet off the ground, since they were too heavy (and numerous) to carry. They picked out some good spots to plant the barrels, where they'd ignite the ships docked in the port and from there help to potentially burn down the port dome itself (although no one was sure what it was made out of, so they didn't know if it would burn). They didn't have real fuses, so the plan was to lay a trail of gunpowder with the last barrel to each of the planted barrels, once they were just about ready to set everything on fire.

Unfortunately, the guard wandering around inside the port found one of the floating barrels before they had more than a few of them set. And even more unfortunately, the guard who'd seen Nico arrived at the port about the same time, to ask if the port guard had seen anything unusual.

The party didn't realize that given the nature of the port, a floating barrel wasn't *that* unusual, and made a break for the remaining Ree (bunny and squid) ship with the plan to use its weapons to set off the pre-planted barrels (they quickly shoved the remaining barrels in the right direction to go off usefully) and blast their way out of the port. A bunch of suspicious non-burmecians running around in the middle of the night when everyone should be asleep -- THAT was unusual.

But they got to the ship, and with their experience with the smaller 'magic wands' (machine guns) managed to find the triggers to fire its cannon and start setsting off the barrels. Again, it was Takara who figured out how to *reload* the cannon, letting them get more than one shot from each. So she and Kyngeah stayed on cannon duty, laying down suppressive fire to keep the guards from getting too close, while Nico and Cane headed up to what looked from the outside like it should be the wheelhouse, to try to get the ship moving -- the plan was to ram the port's gate so that they could leave the port quickly, since it was now on fire.

Unfortunately, while they figured out how to get the ship moving, they didn't figure out how to get it moving in any particular direction, and nearly flipped it over several times before Cane was tossed away from the controls and Nico was able to take over. Nico managed to crash the ship somewhat near the port, although he tore off half the etheric vanes in the process, and they all jumped out and ran for it.

Unfortunately, one of the guards had summoned reinforcements, and they faced off against four of them in the street outside the port. The guards were mages, tossing sleep spells and lightning bolts at them, and were able to jump ludicrously high, as Nico found when he tried to swoop down on them.

Nico grappled the one who jumped at him, and flew up very very high until even a superjumping rat-thing wouldn't be able to survive the drop. Of course, he wouldn't have been able to survive fall from that height either, and the guard kept trying to put him to sleep -- at one point, they tried to blackmail each other, but neither would back down... eventually, Nico managed to drop the guard into the reservoir, getting rid of him without killing him.

Cane splashed 'spike growth ointment' on the street where the guard jumping towards him was going to land, which didn't make exceedingly dangerous spikes, but knocked the rat off his feet. But not out of the fight! After some narrow escapes from the rat's deadly spells (especially deadly since Cane was still feeling very sick -- they hadn't actually taken Itsaboy's wafers yet) Cane got some lucky hits in, and stabbed the rat twice, taking him out.

Kyngeah cast sanctuary on herself, and taunted one of the guards to argue with her about religion. She couldn't convince the fanatic to convert to the worship of Abraxis, but he was too distracted to pay attention to anything else that was going on...

And Takara tried to castrate the rat who jumped at her with her claws, but the fight ended up being mostly a stalemate until the guard realized that he was the only one left, and ran off.

At that point, most of the party ran for the Deathtrap II, and drove it back through the city to rescue Kyngeah from her argument -- they were a little surprised when the guard arguing with her got on the train to keep arguing! The Takara snuck up behind him and knocked him unconscious with a piece of machinery.

"Took you long enough!" Kyngeah complained.

At any rate, they drove quickly out of Crisium's territory and through Imbrium's, over the course of a couple of days, still not taking the regeneration wafers because Itsaboy had warned them it would knock them out for several days, and they wanted to be somewhere safe. Unfortunately, when they finally got back to the edge of Nubium's territory, the techs who'd built the Deathtrap were there to tell them that Mr. Stravinsky's tower was no longer safe, and neither was the farm Sgt. First had commandeered for them.

Apparently, the 'Realists' hadn't just been an eccentric religious sect -- they were an *illegal* religious sect, and Nubium had found out about them. Sgt. First was under arrest, and Itsaboy and Mr. Stravinsky were missing. The corporation was under new management, who didn't know about the party (ressurrection was illegal, and they would have been in big trouble if anyone had talked) and wouldn't give them a place to stay.

Oh, and they couldn't be paid for any of their work, since they were citizens, who were supposed to be above that sort of thing. Yaay.

They did have enough petty cash on hand to buy a small house somewhere, at least... but with their powerful allies gone (or in Nubium's case, gone insane) things weren't looking really good. Especially since they'd just burned down Crisium's port, and she'd probably be a little bit pissed at them for that.

Rereading this, I realized that I used 'unfortunately' to lead off an awful lot of the paragraphs. Unfortunately, that's appropriate to describe the night's events. :D
