It turns out the roads are passable today -- it's still above freezing, so the snow I saw out my window wasn't sticking. And the snow plows are still out racing down the roads in a phalanx formation at 40 mph.

The sidewalks, on the other hand...

Well, they're covered in massive snowdrifts from the plows. Sometimes, the plows went into a driveway, leaving piles of snow to climb over. In one case, it was a massive, flat wall of snow coming up to my chest, that I had to crawl over on hands and knees because I don't have a four foot vertical leap.

And there's these lakes of slushy water where the snow's melting, but the runoff can't get to the sewer grates because of other snow that hasn't melted yet. It's impossible to tell how deep they are without stepping in them (or, possibly, using a stick or something, I guess, but I didn't have one). The first few were really shallow, and my shoes are relatively new and (thus) waterproof. The last one was ten feet wide and about six inches deep, so ice cold water poured into my shoes through the ankle-hole. Luckily, it was across the street from my apartment, so I didn't have to walk far in soaked feet. Although, actually, they'd warmed up by the time I walked the 50 feet to the door, since the temperature outside isn't really that cold.

I did manage to (mildly) twist both ankles and both shoulders, even without slipping and falling. Well, plenty of slipping. The shoulders were from flailing about avoiding the falling part.

And there was this SUV that apparently decided the sidewalk was half of his lane -- he popped up onto the sidewalk with one side of his car (the other side still in the street) and just drove down the street that way, tipped about 15 degrees since the sidewalk was covered in the snowdrift from the plows. It was a total 'what the fuck?' I mean, I'd have thought he was trying to run me down except that he was going about 10 mph... I guess he was just an asshole who wanted to see me scramble into the bushes?

But, mission accomplished. Mmm, Taco Bell. n.n
