I was feeling kind of down after work yesterday, and stopped at the grocery store to get some wine and toothpaste and paper towels and underarm deoderant and cheesy-bread.

The wine (some kind of Port or other, since Tom and Ed are always going on about it) turned out to be corked shut, which suprised me -- I didn't think anyone used corks anymore. I also thought that I had a corkscrew attached to my can opener, but it turned out to be a bottle-cap-remover-thing instead.

So, I used a screwdriver. That was a bad idea. It mostly pushed the cork *in* until I got it good and embedded, then I pulled it back up... and pried half the cork off, in little bits, leaving the other half still plugging the neck of the bottle. Also, I kind of chipped the neck of the bottle -- cork beats glass, apparently.

Eventually, I gave up and just shoved the cork into the bottle instead of trying to pull it out. That was a *really* bad idea. But after changing my shirt and wiping off the counter, microwave, sink, and floor, I poured myself a glass, and it tasted okay. I guess putting a cork in wine isn't going to ruin it, or they wouldn't use corks.

Of course, I couldn't close it back up again, and didn't want to drink the whole bottle in one session, so I had to shove an old dirty sock... just kidding, I used a paper towel. }:P
