There was a power outage friday night. It wasn't too much of a problem at the time, since I discovered it late one night getting home from a game and the power was back on by morning (and it was a weekend so the lack of an alarm wasn't a big deal), but it fried my DVR.
The immediate symptoms ('nothing but snow appears on the screen') were fixed by unplugging it for 30 seconds. That night, when it started refusing to accept commands from the remote, power-cycling it worked again. I was able to watch all the recorded shows from Friday or Saturday that I really cared about -- Inu Yasha, Battlestar Galactica, Naruto... didn't get around to watching Ghost in the Shell, but I've been buying the DVDs of those and can catch the episode off that.
Sunday, after a nice meet where we played a lot with the new Guildpact set (I'm really disappointed in the Izzet -- the focus on triggering off playing spells conflicts with replicate in a really serious way, giving it Dimir level incompatibility with itself), I got back to find the DVR utterly fried -- the screen flashed quickly green and black, and changing the channel made it power down for a few seconds into a scary 'building whine, screen black with a grey gradiant, ozone smell' state after which it needed to reload all its listings...
Yeah, so I took it in and got a new one this morning, which made me a little 'late' to work. Not that anyone cares. But all my saved programs are gone, and I'll have to go redo all the shows for this week by hand... I guess I can try out recording series again and see if that works on the new hardware, because it's not the same model as the old one.
