Mostly, it's an excuse to take off work. I'm using vacation time, but I still need an excuse for my own purposes or I'd use up all my vacation time as soon as I got it, which wouldn't be much fun.
I wish there was some sort of schedule for the con, like 'what time is registration open', that sort of thing. Geez. Is there actually still a con this year? You couldn't tell it from the website.
