MMOs continue to devour my soul

terryclothI really do like Freeport better than Qeynos. It's less gaudy, and the people aren't as self-righteous -- and they spend more time killing each other and the undead, and less time slaughtering the local humanoids, which is refreshing. I wish I had a character based there.
I don't anymore. On the 4th of July, I started the betrayal quest with Terrix. Not that I'll likely ever get to play with anyone I know from outside the game. I sent Speckles a p #mail about it on FT, but he hadn't logged in for a while there either.
Before betraying, I got my outfitter level up making chainmail and various weapons so that I'd at least be minimally equipped. The market in Freeport is awful, and never has anything useful... so everyone betrays, so the market gets worse, it's a vicious cycle. While I was out harvesting, someone mentioned they were betraying to Freeport in OOCs, and three different people said, "Go back! Freeport sucks!" Of course, by the time you're in the opposing wilderness zone it's way too late for that. Although I have to wonder... if you finish before level 17, can you go and betray back? Or does it automatically level you up like the class quests seem to?
I also made a bunch of tier 2 backpacks. I think so far I've managed to fill up two of them with stuff I don't want to sell to a merchant because *eventually* it'll be worth selling to players, once I get a house again. Well, actually, one is full of various quest food (I don't want to throw it away, but usually end up eating crappy food instead), and a third is full of stuff I'll sell as soon as I get to the next merchant. Still leaves three entirely empty, of course.
Terrix -> 16 (barely). Someone else doing betrayal helped me camp the named gnolls I hadn't gotten yet last night, but one of us must have been a lucky charm or something because they all appeared within five minutes of us showing up. Or maybe they really do respawn that fast? Still have 300 gnolls to go, though... dinging 16 made the gnolls in the Caves grey, and I think I might be better off actually killing antonica or blackburra ones for actual XP, since I've got something like two entire levels to play with before it's wasted.
Ah, the group that I killed Dancoed with was amusing. After the fact. Two level 17 mages, and me at level 15 in homemade armor trying to tank for them. I had a choice between letting them die, or trying to tank the stuff they wanted to take on and dying myself. Usually we all died in the end, so it didn't matter. A level 19 came in and helped us *actually* kill Dancoed (after four failed attempts without him), but even he couldn't make us live trying to hunt the other gnoll groups on what I've affectionately dubbed 'Add Hill'.
A healer might have been nice. Never seen a healer so far, with Terrix. Are they that rare? I guess I only ever saw one other healer with Terishaell.
Cinnamon -> 29 (barely) and, more importantly, I figured out which contact was going to sell me mutation SOs. I didn't realize (never having really paid attention before) that you had to get them to the *second* line before they'd sell you SOs, and the second contact I did that with eventually gave me mutation. It turned out it was one I'd gotten *almost* all the way there several months ago, but stopped one mission shy... argh!
Good thing too, as hover without enhancement + stealth = rooted.
I put a range enhancement in Blaze, but it doesn't help as much as I'd hoped. I'd thought that Fire Breath was 10 range base and the cone range in it was making the difference, but it looks like it's actually 20, so it far outranges blaze even with both enhanced. It's annoying, because Blaze is my staple, and 10 (well, 12) is waaaay too close.
Other than MMOs... on the 4th I walked to Togos to get a sandwich, and they were *closed*. So I had to eat frozen TV dinners instead. I didn't see any fireworks this year; by the time I noticed that it was getting dark it was like midnight. Oops.
