terryclothWell, went out to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy today, and... it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the original review I've seen passed around made it out to be. Most of the specific complaints in that review were baseless.
Unfortunately, the one that wasn't was that most of the new dialogue added to the movie was not nearly as funny as the old dialog inexplicably not added. In particular, the nose-church world was kind of stupid, although the lead guy himself was neat... but having Zaphod be a blubbering idiot for the rest of the movie was really aggravating, because that was one less character who could be giving funny lines. From the point he was lobotimized on he was a waste of screen space.
But Vogsphere was amusing. Everything new with the vogons was amusing. The parts with the vogons that they left out would also have been amusing, though.
Overall, it had things in it that I liked, and it didn't put me to sleep, but it made me cringe several times. So I am unable to give it my coveted 'good movie' award. You should probably still see it if you were planning to, though, because on balance it was worth seeing.
