We had another session of the D+D game Dave's running. Bizzarely, and for the first time ever, everyone showed up before 7pm for the game which nominally starts at 6pm.

Phygtyl dropped the dead body of the creature at the house of the Sage they'd worked with before, who asked him how long it had been dead. "About... 20 minutes?" "No, no, it's been dead at least a week." "No... I killed it myself just a few minutes ago." That was interesting enough to get the sage's attention, at least, but he said he'd need some time to do the reseatch.

While the party slept, however, they were ambushed! They were caught completely off-guard, without guards or armor or anything, because they thought they were safe halfway across the city in a locked house. But no, the enemies had somehow tracked them down... Phygtyl was lucky, waking up before the enemy even came into his room. Tydek was unlucky, only waking up after the initial coup-de-grace failed to kill him.

Other than that, though, the enemies were quickly dispatched. Phygtyl tracked them back to the sage's house, where they found that the sage had also been attacked! The sage didn't seem *too* upset, as he'd been able to take out his attacker who'd been armed with a magical dagger; the party also got two of the magic daggers, which were 'longtooth assassin daggers' that were as deadly as a magic longsword, and even deadlier in the hands of a rogue, but could still be finessed.

The sage also told them that the enemies were 'half dead', whatever that meant, and had probably originally been goblins.

Being attacked in their sleep meant that the party was *not* going to wait 24 hours for Cora to summon a new companion. They attacked around noon the next day, smashing open the front door and charging into the fray!

This time, the enemy's front line of defense was the same ones they'd killed the day before, raised as true zombies instead of half-dead creatures. The zombies were pathetically useless in combat, and Ignaceous -- the mage -- positioned himself to hold the lot of them off in melee while the rest of the party went after the dangerous opponents.

The first wave of dangerous opponents were a mage who was able to wound Tydek by cutting himself on the arm, and an extra-strong half-dead who hit very hard with a big spiked club. Phgytyl's hawk flanked the heavy-hitter with Tydek, while Phygtyl himself, and his dog, and Cora took down the mage. The big guy retreated when heavily wounded, leaving only the zombies to mop up...

...and then Tydek decided to chase after him and aggro'd the rest of the floor -- another half dozen zombies, another necromancer, another BIGGER half-dead, and eight archers. The necromancer, at least, fled immediately, having already cast all his spells to buff the bigger meleer.

Cora and Phygtyl moved up to support Tydek, and were quickly surrounded by zombies and fighting back to back with the paladin. Ignaceous was cut off from the party in a tiny side passage utterly swarmed by zombies, which meant that he was much safer than everyone else.

It was looking bad -- Tydek had only got one hit on the boss before having to retreat to avoid death, leaving Phygtyl as the only one attacking him, and the hawk and dog were uselessly barking at the zombies they were afraid to attack, and the original big half-dead had healed himself up and come back into the fray from behind. But then Cora fired off her last spell -- a vigor aura that affected the whole team -- and turned into a bear to join in the melee, and things slowly started turning around.

Somehow, Phygtyl managed to stay alive as the boss wailed on him again and again, usually missing... even though Cora and Tydek outright refused to get in range to help take him down, and instead kept whittling away at the lesser half-deads and zombies who generally couldn't hit anyone and who were too thickly piled on to even all get into melee -- which meant they were replaced as quickly as they were killed. Phygtyl's DOG eventually managed to get past the zombies, and held the attention of the not-as-big-but-still-big half-dead until Tydek had finally regenerated enough to risk drawing attention to himself... and the sub-boss was killed a few rounds later. Too late for the dog, though.

The hawk was sent to harass the archers who'd been plinking away at Cora in bear form, and it was killed too.

By then, Phygtyl was on the brink of death -- he had been for a while, but neither his luck or the regen had quite run out -- so it was a good thing that Tydek finally deigned to take a swing at the big boss half-dead, dropping him in a couple hits. [he had 96 hit points. *96!!!*] After that, it was a loooong, slow cleanup, mostly of zombies.

They looted the bodies, sprung a symbol of pain trap, and found the enemy's rather pathetic stash of wealth, then decided to track the fleeing necromancer, hoping to finish him off before he could go to ground and remem spells. They didn't have to track him far, though -- as they followed him out the back door and around the side of the hotel, they ran right into an ambush in the front yard! Luckily, they ran into the back of one of the ambush's flanks (it was set up to ambush people coming out the front door), so they'd at least have a fighting chance...
