Weekend of DEATH!
Jan. 10th, 2005 10:07 amOkay, that's a little overly dramatic.
I spent most of Saturday watching the Stargate Atlantis marathon recorded Friday. It was annoying in that I'd expected it to be all the episodes so far, but it wasn't -- they skipped around. I guess I missed more episodes than I thought!
I like the show, though -- it's better than SG-1, for sure. The characters have more... character. Plus, I hate Tilk a lot.
Late that night, I did a little 'solitaire' D+D with Speckles, and got killed. In one attack sequence. By a howler. Howlers can do a LOT of damage if they hit with all four spines and you have a sucky reflex save. In this case, 39 points. >.<
But it was okay, because he was able to finish it off (with a crossbow bolt, of all things) and drag my smelly corpse up to the surface to get reincarnated. As an elf! Elves' favored multiclass is not druid, or rogue, so no multiclass to rogue for me! Sniffle. Will have to convince Speckles to take leadership when he makes 6th, since I'm getting a little sick of falling into spiked pits.
We did some more playing Sunday after the gathering, and faced down another Howler... which I made sure to stay out of melee from. Flaming Sphere + Produce Flame > Flame Blade. Speckles complained bitterly about the lack of phat lewt from our random dungeon excursions -- every time we find a magic item (which is rare enough) it's a potion or scroll. Although, I'm at about the right wealth for my level now -- getting killed actually helps with that.
The gathering was mostly a 'let's play magic!' gathering this time -- Havoqx and such showed up, after several weeks absence (or at least, several-of-the-weeks-I-was-there). Havoqx kept conceding as soon as the deck I was playing showed any signs of being able to disrupt his combo, even if I wasn't exactly in the best board position. Then Lex demonstrated his complete inability to play Morphy's Affinity deck.
I wish these people had more than one deck each, really. Well, Havoqx does. But Morphy has only his lodestone myr affinity, Lex has only his broken infinite mana combo deck (combo in the pure sense -- it does nothing for five-to-eight turns, then wins) and his scepter counterspell deck, and Slox has the bizarrely vicious control deck Havoqx made for him and 'red deck wins', a pure burn deck. And Kitsunetaur has just the one 'let's recurse dragons and make isochron scepters look balanced by imprinting them with total crap' deck. I can understand them not wanting to buy new cards, I guess...
No one could agree on where to go after the gather, so I just headed home and played D+D, as noted above.
PET PEEVE:
Speckles: "How are you doing?" [I hate this question]
Me: "Okay, I guess."
Speckles: "Only okay?" [AAARGH! KILL KILL KILL!]
