So, I took over GMing the GURPS game. It wasn't a complete disaster, although it wasn't exactly a triumph. There was this little problem of no one in the group having any reason to, you know, do anything.
Lazar has a job now, so he might be late to the games from now on -- sometimes, he might even be later as I am. Having a job does that. It shouldn't cause a problem, though, as long as we start getting food at a reasonable time even if he isn't there yet. Sandy's always there to let us in the apartment, at least.
John and Don were standing under the smoke cloud, not sure whether they'd hit the mage who'd stolen John's familiar or not. Running out from under the smoke cover, John noted that the mage was falling, and figured that his familiar was probably falling too -- so he asked for help. "Can anyone do anything to stop him falling?"
Kitten was nearby, and tried to help, by casting slowfall... on the unconscious mage, who was the only one he could see. It was dusk, and they were a half mile up... when the familiar fell to its doom, he realised his mistake, and the three of them decided to move on before someone came to investigate. The spell on the mage was allowed to expire, and his slightly delayed fatal fall continued...
The marquis didn't show up at the jeweler's shop. The jeweler did have the identifications he'd been asked to facilitate completed, and had a potential buyer for the (sadly deceased) familiar... he gave John the card, and for some reason John agreed to go meet the unnamed buyer at midnight, in the cemetary, by the grave of 'he who must not be named'. "No, that's not what it says on the headstone... er... you'll know it when you see it."
They waited around for the Marquis for a while, but John asked Kitten if he could help him find some work. Kitten's vow required him to help with that, and he found a small-time criminal who was willing to give them a job. When the marquis sent word that it was too dangerous for them to be seen publically, and that they should go hide somewhere, they decided to go meet with Kitten's contact.
On the way, they were attacked by three random thug looking people... all of them were killed before they could attack the party, but that didn't seem to stop them. Still, they didn't manage to injure anyone before two were damaged beyond functioning, and the third was paralyzed by Don's taser-wrench. As he came too, the control that had been using them like puppets was gone. "It wasn't me!" he pleaded, as he scrambled away, "It was the doooooog!"
"I knew it!" Kitten said. Agents of the Dog had been hounding him, the high priest of the Paw, a cat-worshipping cult, for ages.
The job they were offered was to be payed a finder's fee to 'retrieve a magical item' (a ring) from a mage the guy claimed to have left it with to be identified. "He won't give it back, so I want you to go convince him. If you can do this, I might trust you enough to give you a real job." The party accepted, but found the guy's shop closed up and locked, with a guard dog inside. Kitten reminded them that since the bazaar was a bizarre, lawless place, most shops were heavily warded, and it might be better to try in the morning when the mage was awake.
(On the way to the mage's place, Don saw a couple street rats being slaughtered by a scythe-armed demon thing like Charlie had been dealing with. Since no one else could see it, it was obviously happening Between. He didn't mention anything about it to the others.)
Forgetting (literally) about the meeting in the graveyard, they decided to find an inn to sleep overnight in. But they were attacked on the way by the dog himself!
The first thing they knew, they were enfolded in a thick, opaque darkness, just like the Kits had always done to them. Kitten put up a force dome, not knowing the nature of the attack, while John drew his weapon and listened for any enemies and Don reached for 'something to let us see in this darkness'.
Well, since the 'darkness' was really that they had all been struck blind, what he got was a powerful hallucinogen... one that *did* let them see some useful information, though. John tried it, and found himself in a wide open field of daisies, with bunnies hopping happily all around, and one Big Bad Wolf.
The Wolf finally realized that physical attacks couldn't get through the force dome (it'd been throwing things at them with Apportation) and started shooting sunbolts (Don was firing back wildly in its general direction, but couldn't see it). One of them hit Kitten, who decided that enough was enough, and summoned up a spark storm in the wolf'd general location. John helped him aim the rapidly growing storm... and the wolf decided it was too risky to stay around, and fled.
A few seconds later, the blindness wore off, and they went inside. John was still hallucinating that he was in an open field surrounded by bunnies, so he had to be led to the bar.... where he tried to pay for his drinks in diamonds (but Don stopped him). They got a room for the night, and Kitten decided to try a little of the hallucinogen -- and hallucinated that he was a cat. "Cool!"
In the morning, they realized that they'd missed the meeting in the graveyard, but decided that that was probably a good thing, and went to see the mage they were supposed to rob. When they found out that he specialized in Gate magic, they decided that perhaps hiring him to send them 'home' would be a better idea. After some discussion, they decided that 'home' was Athens East, at least for now -- their lives there were more interesting than in Athens Industrial.
Kitten asked to come along -- he could pay his own way (and his cat's) and thought that they were interesting (and rich) -- and they didn't really care. So they spent an hour while the mage identified the dimension they were heading for, and gave them an estimate for the transfer.
They never got around to asking for the ring.

It was snowing on the way home, so I took the slow way in case it got slippery. It didn't, though.
