Overload

I'm annoyed. I finally got some good decks together with Kamigawa cards, and half the people I know that play magic stopped. Or at least stopped coming around to the Sunday things. It's not all that much fun to pummel Kitsunetaur's one deck into oblivion over and over, even if it's a good deck now, and can put up a fight... of course, even before they stopped playing, Lex and Slox and such had descended into Type I Madness, which isn't much fun to play against either.

But anyway, I played with all my altered decks on Sunday (the only ones that can even sort of be called new are the Staying Power deck which got more Unhinged cards -- I added Magical Hacker, Meddling Kids and Emcee -- and the red/white samurai deck which lost all the samurai-specific cards and gained a bunch of spirits, becoming more effective in the process, because the samurai-specific stuff I had was lame) then headed down to Lex's place, even though I'd decided not to go to his place this week, because everyone else I could have gone with was absent. Skykit was having people over, but warned us that he was going to have loud music and flashing lights. Yeek!

Before we could go to Lex's, we had to stop at every used book store in town to see if Lex could find the Hyengokai supplement for Werewolf so that Kitsunetaur could play a Kitsune. The short answer is, we couldn't -- I found some used books I wanted, though, and he got Vampire the Masquerade, using money he borrowed from me (he wanted to borrow more so that he could also get Mage the Ascension, but come ON). Then, after a while spent preparing for the game, cuddling with each other, and searching through his magic cards for enough rares and uncommons to cover the money he knew he wouldn't ever be able to pay me back, we played a few rounds of his game.

And I do mean 'rounds'. He gave each person a turn to do something, and went around the table. This was necessary because we basically never met -- a couple times we'd run into each other, but since we didn't know each other and had no reason to want to know each other, we never stuck around. So, possibly as a result, nothing happened before it was time to take Zaria home.

Since he didn't want to leave it at that, he invited us to come back tomorrow so that we could get a little more gaming in. "What time would you be coming over?" he asked. "I don't know... when does rush hour die down in the morning? Around noon?" "Yeah, around lunch." Kitsunetaur wanted me to pick him up on the way, but I refused to cross the bridges during a weekday... so instead he'd call me on my cell ("If I don't pick up, it might mean I'm driving.") when he got down to Zaria's place, and if I hadn't left yet, they'd just take the bus.

The next day, after finishing off Scaler, and stopping by the Lego store to get some little Lego sets, I headed down, and figured I'd be the last one there -- it was a half hour after noon!

I woke them up. None of them had even gotten up yet. Grayfox looked at me and was like 'what the hell are you doing here?', and I explained, and he and Lex argued -- Lex said he'd planned to tell Gray he'd invited everyone over 'first thing in the morning', and Gray reminded him that he had all these errands to do... so I drove them around to do the big errand, which was basically scamming the cable company into another few months of introductory payments by cancelling their service and getting it in someone else's name.

Kitsunetaur and Zaria showed up on their own around the same time we got back from the cable store ("We tried to call you, but your cell phone doesn't work! The message said that number isn't in service."), then I sat around the house for a few hours playing with Legos (god, I'm glad I stopped there before heading down) while they set up the network, hammering wires and cables and crap everywhere, until they were FINALLY ready to start.

We didn't really meet each other in that day's playtime either, and as the day ground on, I started getting homicidal thoughts towards Kitsunetaur, who I can stand normally, but get him in an RPG and he turns into a total twink, taking three actions before anyone else can move (including things like putting a gun to their head) and insisting that just because he's in the middle of shooting someone else doesn't mean he can't shoot everyone else in the room before they can move, since he's still watching them 'out of the corner of his eye'. He also stole thousands of dollars worth of stuff from a bunch of stores and tried to sell it on the open market, then complained when he didn't get full retail.

So when Cal called saying that he'd locked himself out of the car, I volunteered to go pick him up, even though Lex had already lied to him that no one was around to help. "Oh, Terry just walked in, and he says he can come get you..." Any excuse to get away from the game... "No, no, don't stop the game for me, you have me playing bodyguard for an NPC anyway."

So who came with me? Lex and Kitsunetaur. They had me drop them off at a library on the way so that they could get copies, and Lex gave me his cellphone so that he and Cal could call me to coordinate...

Unfortunately, Lex's cellphone was set to *vibrate* instead of ringing, and I put it in my coat pocket. So when Cal called me twice to let me know that he wasn't waiting in the spot he told me he'd be waiting at, but at a completely different place instead, I didn't get the message. When Lex and Kits called to tell me they were going to just take the bus home since I was taking too long (wandering around in the night looking for Cal in the wrong place), I didn't get the message.

After a while, I checked the phone to see if it was working, because I expected *somebody* to have called by then, and saw that I'd missed six calls. But his phone was incomprehensible (aren't they all?) and I only succeeded in deleting the messages instead of playing them back... d'oh.

Eventually, though, after I'd given up on finding anyone and was just heading back to get my stuff and LEAVE, I spotted Cal on the side of the road, and waved him over. It didn't take that long to drive him around to get his spare keys so he could get back into his truck, once I'd actually found him, and he gave me some cookies to pay for my time. But then I went to the library and found no Lex and Kitsunetaur, even after a thorough search, and so when I got back to their place after like an hour and a half, to find everyone in the world had come over while I was driving around, I just -- I just got my stuff and bolted.

I wasn't angry. But I knew if I stayed there, someone would have asked me to do something for them, and I would have killed them right there. Or at least tried -- most of them could beat me up.

Then I started looking for Java, but that's another story.
