Bad Idea Day
Jan. 27th, 2006 11:57 amSomeone at work had the Worst Idea Ever yesterday, and I was the only one who stepped up to flame him on group-wide e-mail. Arguments over the intranet make me even more angry than internet ones! And god forbid I meet someone face to face... the last couple FTF arguments I got in ended... badly... It's probably a good thing I'm too irresponsible to keep pets, or I'd have sicced 'em on them for sure.
I'm really worried about the current project, though. I know it sounds like a straightforward port -- take the new routines from the Purification Chamber, that let pokemon interact while in electronic storage, and integrate them with the sim battle system so that trainers can use their real pokemon in simulated fights. The problem, ironically enough, is that the Purification Chamber is already a variant of the sim battle system, altered beyond recognition, so there's a lot of code that's too close to really want both versions around, but too different to just go and use one version or the other. I suppose the fast thing to do would be to use a namespace or something, but that would be a nightmare to maintain.
And with wild pokemon starting to show up again in the national forests, you really have to wonder if this whole project is necessary at all... is our market really going to consist of people too antisocial to find other trainers to battle, who also happen to be anti-hunting activists? I mean, the real animal rights folks don't generally own fighting pokemon in the first place.
