Grrk.. Mrrk... Frrrk...
Jan. 5th, 2006 02:02 pmSo, city of villains again last night -- was instantly invited to a group, again. It looks like everyone low level really has moved over to CoV, so all my low-level heroes are out of luck!
Afterwards I went on spindizzy for a while, and did some RP, which doesn't need scare quotes. Unfortunately. }:)
Then, I made a little progress in Chrono Trigger. It would have been more, except that when they ported the game from the SNES, they didn't do anything to clarify that passwords which have 'As' in them need to use the circle button. Not the X button, like you'd expect, since X does what A did on the SNES, including initiating and dismissing dialogs.
Although that's not actually what took me an hour to figure out. There's a spot where you get one or two chances (it's time-limited) to enter a password after a loong, long cutscene. The password is pretty obviously 'LARA', and you've more explicitly been told how to enter passwords before (by pushing the buttons in sequence).
However, the other password entry places you'd wait for a tone, then enter the password while the dialog was up. Here, I never got a tone. But I tried hitting 'L-X-R--' Buzz? Why'd it buzz? Argh, now she's dead...
Okay, try two. 'L-O-R-O'. Hmm, nothing happened. 'L-O-R-O'. Still nothing. WTF? Argh, too late...
Try three. LXRX still didn't work. Try four. LORO. LXRX. LORO. Nothing buzz nothing.
Go to gamefaqs and check to see if there's something I'm missing. One faq says 'LARA', another specifies the circle button, neither say anything about anything special you have to do.
Eventually, I figured it out -- you have to hit X to dismiss the 'enter password' text before entering the password. When you do *that* you get feedback (a happy chirp for each correct button) and everything. LORO was never dismissing the text, LXRX was seen as (nothing) (dismiss) (wrong button) (nothing since you already failed).
So, like I said after an hour, I finally entered the code to save the person, and got... a useless accessory that I'll never use (one-time autores). Grumble grumble.
