Did a little city of heroes last night, during the story circle, and as a result didn't get to participate. It seems like I'm always getting online after most of them have left anyway, which is annoying...

Later (after chatting online for a while and watching some full metal alchemist) I tried to do some city of villains, and did do a mission or two, but the low framerate in its city zones is really getting to me. Well, that and that most of the streethunting in Cap Au Diable is basically hazard zone spawns. But mostly the framerate.

As it turns out, lowering the resolution doesn't help at all. 640x480 or 1280x1024, same 5-7 FPS. Turning off the various quality settings does nothing. Turning down 'world detail' helps, but I already *did* that!

City of Heroes isn't nearly so bad, and I've seen 'villains be better on other peoples' computers. It's really frustrating, since I have a card (geforce 6800 GT) that everyone says should be more than sufficient to run the game well... and nvidia cards are *supposed* to be the ones that are better at running it. Hell, the 6800 was the SPECIFIC FREAKING CARD that the devs called out as what they were targetting when making city of villains!

So if it's not my video card, and doesn't seem to be network lag (since while adding more people does add lag, there was no one else on in my field of vision that late at night, and solo arachnos base maps with NO ONE else in them also have the problem), and doesn't seem to be my processor or a lack of memory (the game doesn't get any slower if I have a bunch of other programs running in the background, and changing texture detail levels doesn't help), WTF? Seriously!

Anyway, after getting frustrated trying to figure out why my computer sucks, I wrote a little more for an old story I'd mostly abandoned, and which I'm not sure I'll ever finish, as it's one of the open ended kind of things that it's easy to just never finish. That night, I dreamt about blowing up the world. Or rather, about trying to stop a plot to blow up the world that somehow involved 'Siberia' and Quebec being recognized by the united nations. If I rushed in there during the ceremony and destroyed the flags, the world would be saved... but could I resist the charms of the voluptuous super-spies arrayed against me?

Apparently, the answer was 'no', although time actually hadn't run out when I woke up.

You probably don't actually want to get me anything on this list.

No, really, this isn't reverse psychology. )

That's all I can really think of.
