Fear me!

Right...

Yesterday I stopped at Fry's on the way to pick up comics, and city of villains was on sale! I had to buy it. Or, well, I didn't *have* to, but I did. I also picked up FEAR, Pokemon XD, another ghost in the shell DVD... I really shouldn't be allowed near stores like that.

At any rate, my suspicion was right, and the 1.6G 'patch' had, in fact, included the entirety of city of villains -- I attached the serial number to my account and could immediately start creating villainous characters to start doing evil. I decided on 'Glistening Paradigm', a robots/traps mastermind, who just wants to make the whole world *shiny*. Is that so wrong?

Mercy Island is the laggiest zone I've seen yet in city of heroes. Er, I mean, villains. Except for Arachnos Base missions, which are really, really bad. Turning down 'world detail' was the only thing that seemed to help; I suppose decreasing the resolution would probably help too, although turning down '3d resolution' didn't.

At any rate, I did some missions that mostly involved killing evil monstrous snakes (which, according to the backstory I've read, are kept around by Arachnos to test new villains, although it doesn't say so in the game), then got a headache from the low frame rate (it wasn't until a later session that I finally found a video option that worked somwhat; it at least crossed the thresshhold to 'not giving me a headache', although it's still jerky.) and decided to take a nap.

When I woke up, with a growing sense of dread (since I at the time had very little faith in my computer's power) I decided to install FEAR, and see if it would work at all.

It worked beautifully... it looks good, the frame-rate's good... I just don't get these stupid video cards. Maybe I *should* decrease COH's resolution, despite the LCD monitor dealy.

Anyway, FEAR's a pretty good game, although so far I've only fought one type of enemy, 'soldier with a machine gun'. They're pretty smart, and if I was playing on a harder difficulty they'd probably be kicking my ass. On the default, you can stay under cover and they'll mostly miss you, so I've been doing okay.

So, we had another abbreviated session of Tom's game. This time, both Eric and Josh were missing. Tom tried to press his kids into playing their characters, but they got really bored when it came time for combat and things slowed down into combat rounds, so we let them go.

Tom runs the slowest D+D combats I've ever seen. I don't know how he manages that.

Apparently, the plan is to show up at 1pm now. I've been showing up between noon and 12:30, since the official word was 'be there by 12:30'. No one else came before 1, so I had to sit there uncomfortably while Michelle frantically cleaned the house. I *hate* housework, whether or not I'm doing it... actually, I think I hate it less when I'm the one doing it.

Oh, after Tom's game I made another villain, 'Ice Weasel', an energy/ninjitsu stalker who talks like a combination of Gollum and the skin lizards from Digger. And has similar motives.

I'm... not very good at being a stalker, at least in a group. It always seems like I'm the *second* person to assassinate the appropriate bad guy, meaning I waste all my time and don't get any damage in. It's a little frustrating... but WAY more interesting than flat-out scrapping.

Ninjitsu is a weaker version of the weakest scrapper defense set (super reflexes) weakened further because stalkers have inherently weak defenses... tissue paper would probably be more helpful. Got my ass handed to me by a group of yellow minions AFTER being buffed with defense and resistance powers by some friendly neighborhood corruptors to layer on top of my own shields. Sigh.

Fortunately, stalkers seem to shed aggro pretty well in a group, so I can just hide behind the squishies.
