So, Tom invited some people over to actually play Arcum Horror, but too many people showed up. Not too many for the game -- it supports up to 8, or 16 if you squint -- but too many for the game to be fun.

See, to keep the difficulty up, the more players there are the faster the great old one pops out automatically due to open gates, and none of us fully appreciated that (a) a gate opens every turn, sometimes more often and (b) it takes three turns to close a gate, since you have to spend two turns trudging through the alternate plane first.

So we'd basically lost the game when no one jumped into a gate by turn 2, since with seven players the gate limit was 5.

This made the whole experience not fun, just as predicted. I'd like to try it again with a smaller number of players or WITHOUT the 'too many open gates' rule, which just seems kind of stupid.

The GOO was Nyarlathotep, and we lost SO HARD once he woke up since Michelle had hoarded all the clue tokens for herself, meaning she got to fight it basically alone after everyone else was devoured.

After that fiasco, we played a game of Citadel, which I still hate. The passion with which I hate it is building, but it still less than a thousand suns. Maybe two or three.
