I haven't seen a slug on my block before, but this morning there were like thirty of them scattered across the sidewalk. They were UGLY slugs, too -- looking for all the world like dog-poo. Normally, I would have delighted in the slaughter of such hideous creatures, but I didn't feel like risking getting bits of them stuck in my shoes. I guess 'looking like dog poo' is their defense mechanism, and it seems pretty effective... evolution wins again!

Father of the EWWWW
Sep. 1st, 2004 02:19 pmThe preview I saw in a movie theater of Father of the Pride made it look like it was going to be good, 'Like Shrek!' I think was their line, so I made certain to see it when it came on last night. I shouldn't have bothered.
It just wasn't funny. Most of the jokes were tasteless, and most of the jokes fell flat, although those two didn't have 100% overlap. There were a few decent slapstick gags (like the wife sitting on the chair after lying to the panda that it needed a leg shortened, and falling over because it hadn't) but most of them seemed to think 'Hey, look! This person's gay! This one's a zoophile! This panda's fat! Laugh!' would do it.
It was utterly tasteless. I wasn't *bothered* by it, but it was relentless. Worse than south park in quantity, if not in intensity. No, really.
It was ugly. Some of the characters -- including all of the main ones in the episode, lions and pandas -- were fine, but the supporting cast (especially sigfried and roy) and the sets were just awful.
It was stupidly cheesy.
It kept making me cringe. Lots of sitcoms do that, which is why I don't watch many sitcoms.
So, yeah. Avoid it like the sniffles.
