I finished 'Moonfall' by Jack McDevitt. It wasn't as good as Chindi -- the first half was painfully dull, although not as much so as 'The Rock Rats' or whatever that I was trying to read earlier by the guy who did the Manifold Foo books. Near the end, though, things started blowing up, and it got a bit better.

Now I'm trying to read 'Fifth Dawn', and it's not looking good so far. There's just no story there. Glissa is a whiney little bitch who wanders around a teeny tiny world with artifacts in it, while people try to kill her, and assorted friends get killed saving her. There, that's the plot of the whole Mirrodin cycle.

It's depressing how much the Magic the Gathering fiction in general relies on EVERYONE DYING. Yes, there are cards like 'armageddon' and 'wrath of god' out there, but they don't get used in every game.

I've mostly been playing Pokemon Colloseum, still trapped (not really, I can leave anytime I like) in the Battle Mountain 100-trainer challenge. The enemies are up to level 50ish now, and my team's only up to level 40 (some of them started at 20 -- the silly little Plusle you get from Duking is up to 37). So it's starting to get hard.

I've been watching the Tripping the Rift marathon on VHS, and Inu Yasha on DVD, both borrowed from Murdock. Inu Yasha is subtitled, which makes it really hard to watch, because you have to concentrate on it and watch the screen all the time. I hate subtitles.

Today I walked to Taco Bell to get food, about a 30-40 minute walk each way. I passed a hidden ravine that's probably *technically* visible from a car on Bel Red, but I never noticed before, and spent much of the walk considering whether it would offer any protection from a nuclear strike on Seattle, assuming of course I could get there in time. I eventually decided it'd be better to try to crawl into the sewers, or a culvert, or something.
