The D+D game I normally have on last every other Sunday was cancelled for some reason or other (I think Tom was in Japan for some convention, maybe?) so I went to the Crossroads gathering instead. After eating near Soltris and his new girlfriend, I went over and sat near Zir and Darter and Zodiac. Darter and Zodiac collaborated to force me to buy some MW:Dark Ages minis, but the ones I got were much uglier and less cool. Sigh.

Soltris' companion looked for all the world like a 13-year old trying to play at being a prostitute, with heavy makeup and a pink feather boa and all -- although she seemed normal enough otherwise, and, for that matter, wasn't the most outlandishly dressed person present.

That honor goes to Lex, who had purple fishnet pantyhose covering his arms to sort of create the vague illusion of purple fur, along with his dyed hair and tail, without actually wearing a fursuit. After Zir lent him a purple scarf, he was without a doubt the gayest person present, gayer even than FlameyRat, who's been known to come in shiny plastic pants on occasion.

Zir fell madly in love with Doc after he did some random pennywhistle noodling. He claimed it was oriental music, but IMO it never sounds like music when you only have one instrument, especially if it's the sort of instrument that's only a hare's breath away from a pure sine wave. Along with me and a few other people, the happy couple went over to Legend's, where they proceeded to lurk in a back room and make kissy faces at each other, or whatever.

The rest of us watched Loial try to play MechAssault, and fail miserably, and blame it on the controller, claiming it was 'backwards', although when I took it from him it seemed perfectly normal to me. Go figure, Canadians.

Then he went on a rant about how Americans sucked because they were so 'Arrogant' as to still act like Americans when they were in a different country. I told him that I found the idea that one was supposed to act like something other than oneself while in a different country arrogant and offensive. This is a paraphrase of an hour or so of remarkably good-natured discussion, considering the subject matter.

Then we watched Tank Girl, and Windtalkers, although I think Tank Girl might have come before all that other stuff, actually. Tank Girl was worse than I remembered, and Windtalkers was... very John Woo. Protagonist kills Jap after Jap, while his entourage exists only to stand there and get shot one by one, usually while trying to rescue another Marine. They must have had someone go and heroically pick up some wounded soldier to try to carry him to safety five or six times, and every time rescuer and rescuee alike died in a hail of bullets.

It also had a very heavy-handed 'yay america' scene where the heroic marines invaded a village without resistance and without so much as pointing a gun at anyone, then gave the children candy -- but then the EVIL JAPANESE returned to reclaim their home, and gunned down their own families in their fanatical lust for American blood. Yes, I'm sure that's exactly how it happened.

After the whole mess was over, I felt really pissed off with everything and everyone (I know why, and I'd explain it, but it's too stupid to even admit to myself), and drove around Lake Washington on the freeway with music turned up really loud until it was time to go to sleep. x.x

This has been going on for the past several months, and it's getting on my nerves. What's the actual address? Or is MIRC just a useless pile of crap?
