I had to replace my old toilet seat, for several reasons.

The first reason is that it had mold growing out of the paint on it, which seems to have infected my leg -- the doctor insisted that such mold couldn't possibly be the culprit, and that I'd obviously found someone with athlete's foot and infected myself that way, but I know the truth.

The second reason is that it has paint on it. Paint that isn't especially waterproof, and that starts to melt and rot when kept in a damp area, like a bathroom.

The third is that the paint is painted over particle board, and particle board is not an especially suitable material to make a toilet seat out of, because it has a tendency to snap in two if you put it under unusual stress by, say, sitting on it.

So I went to Sears to get a new toilet seat, and they sent me to Home Depot which actually had replacement toilet seats, in two sizes: 'round' and 'extended'. 'Round' looked like the closest match, and in fact I think it *was* the closest match. It's only off by half an inch or so.

Still, it's better than sitting on shards of sticky, fungus-infested particle board.
