Well, I finally got my hands on this game, and I haven't been disappointed. It's a tactical RPG for the PS2 (in the same genre as Final Fantasy Tactics, although it's a lot different) with a lot of silly features and 'features'. Like the ability to cancel your party members' actions *after* they've participated in combo attacks.
Or 'item world', where you go inside one of your items, fight a bunch of battles one right after another, and end up with a powered up item and the ability to move the 'residents' of that item to other items you may care about more.
Or the glowy colored tiles and pyramids that give bonuses or penalties and can be used to accidentally kill off half your own army but give you so many bonus points in the process that you don't care.
The 'story' bits are also pretty funny... the best known joke is probably the protagonist's reaction upon meeting the first boss.
[paraphrased]
Vayse: "Ah, so you realized I was the main threat, and came after me first. Very astute!"
Laharl: "I never even heard of you. You're just a stepping stone on my way to power."
Vayse: "What? How dare you talk like that to the Dark Adonis Vayse!"
Laharl: "From now on your new name is mid-boss."
And from then on, the conversation labels him as 'mid-boss'. He's called 'mid-boss' in the battle, too. }:P
Anyway, I'm really enjoying it, and better yet -- it means I don't have to play .Hack for a while! };)
