Nightmare Truck
Jun. 14th, 2003 09:03 amI had a terrible dream just now that I wasn't able to ever get my car to pass emissions testing, or maybe just didn't want to bother, and had to buy a new car. But when I got to the Honda dealer, instead of looking at the hybrid civic like I'd been intending, I was mesmerized by a giant aqua blue pickup truck, and bought it on the spot (on my debit card).
The rest of the dream was spent being inconvenienced by having a giant aqua blue pickup truck. I mean, man, what was I thinking? It *was* big enough that I could just buy a bike and toss it in the back without worrying about a bike rack, but now that I'm awake I realize that that isn't exactly safe, you have to tie stuff down in a pickup too.
Not to mention that in the dream I was living back with my parents, and my stepfather was going to kill me as soon as he found out that not only had I bought a foreign car, but it was a GIANT HONDA PICKUP.
I woke up after resolving to take the truck back to the dealer and try to get store credit. I was very relieved to wake up from that dream, even though it wasn't really *scary* since in the worst case I was only out money.
It did remind me of the story of my life as a consumer. Every time I buy something expensive, I not only regret it but feel like swearing off ever buying anything from that company ever again. Dell (sold me a celeron 433 with 'AGP graphics!' without an actual AGP slot), Sony (I'm still in laptop video-card hell, thank you ATI), Chrysler...
Yeah, my god, you have to wonder how Chrysler still sells cars. I've had to do so much work on my Neon, it can't pass the emissions test (check engine light came back on Friday, yay!), and it's only got 40-frickin'-thousand miles on it. The Suburu Legacy my family had needed less work at 100k. OTOH, the Jeep Cherokee we had before that died regularly. I sense a trend.
