Today was the Sunday World Tree game on Loxley's MUCK, and we went back to the original plot, the plight of eight travellers attempting to locate and be eaten by Merklundum.

Today's episode contained a predictable plot twist, the betrayal of our friends, comparative Orren diplomacy, and no Kathia.

Kijji (a flippant orren tree mage and illusionist, among other things), Klepsydra (an ornery orren merchant whose other skills are not known to me), Silverspray (a reserved orren healer who thinks he's a rassimel), Cimminerova (a responsible rassimel fire mage who hasn't yet set even a single party member on fire), and Dirque (a dutiful rassimel armsmaster whose player was absent) had, the day before (in game time, but many months ago in reality) been taken prisoner by, or were possibly honored guests of, the Danetti, a race of giant scawn that had a massive empire a dozen or two levels down the tree.

At the state dinner, they had agreed to assist the Danetti in building an airship that could reach the top of the tree, so that they could go home, establish a trade route, and get rich, hopefully not just before the Danetti built a massive invasion fleet and started a terrible conflict to dwarf the Cyarr wars.

So as night fell, they talked about whether they should really help the Danetti, and whether they should tell their captors/hosts about Wonkotirip (an absent-minded rassimel professor of natural science, and their erstwhile employer) and Loxley (a bossy cani, ex-captain of the ex-airship Catalina, and their erstwhile leader) who had been separated from the party when they'd first met the Danetti, after the Catalina's crash.

Eventually, they decided to sleep on it, and in the morning were led by the charming and patient danetti guide/spy Linn to the university, where they met the deans. On the way, Silverspray quizzed Linn on the empire's treatment of non-danetti, all but accusing them of ethnic cleansing and the like, which Linn was forced to admit had actually occured. To make her comfortable, Kijji started talking about the Cyarr wars, helped along by Dirque, framing them in roughly the same terms.

At the university, they tried to get the deans to talk about airship construction, and were somewhat confused when the deans showed no interest in it. Eventually, it came out that they weren't going to be working on the airship at the university, but at a secure facility about 1000 miles down the branch. This came as somewhat of a surprise, and was inconvenient, because it meant that Loxley and Wonkotirip, who'd been told that they were being taken to the capitol, would then have no way of finding them.

So it was decided to casually bring up the subject of their missing friends, who should have been able to survive the crash, but hadn't been with them. Klepsydra decided that screaming angrily and demanding to be along on the rescue mission (and threatening to take matters into his own hands) was the best course of action, and perhaps he was right, because when Linn eventually returned (after RUNNING off to report to her superiors) they'd agreed to have one of the party go along to help in the search.

While she was gone, the party was able to speak freely with the deans, who expressed borderline treasonous sentiment towards the government. They were hardly revolutionaries, though, so nothing but a bit of talk went on.

We stopped with the party deciding to send Kijji along with the search party, since he had 'The Bright Winged Messenger' grafted as a pattern spell, and with a connection to Loxley (which they had several of) would be able to locate him in short order. The others were told they had the run of the city, but not to leave.
