Oct. 13th, 2002 08:47 pmToday was Tom's game, playing Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. We found an ally, and some answers, and... well...
We ended last time with the party regrouping after driving off some enemies in the second ring of the crater temple. They weren't too badly hurt, had used up most of their attack spells and weren't sure just how much was going to come after them in the way of reinforcements.
So, they decided to get ready for whatever was coming, but before they could do much a priest in black and yellow robes -- not quite the color of most of the priests that they were fighting, called Mepechu by name and told them to follow him. Guided by her divination, Mepechu trusted him enough to lead the party along after him into a secret area where they could rest. He gave them some scrolls and potions, and a stick to contact him and talk at length.
So, after a couple hours for the worst of the alarm to die down, Mepechu did just that. He told them all about the leaders' plans (to excavate the Temple of Elemental Evil) and what needed to be done in the crater (kill the main bad guy, because otherwise it wouldn't matter if they stopped the ceremony because he'd just do it again) and where some important treasures and people and monsters were.
After getting everything written down and a crude map drawn, Mepechu polymorphed into a bat and hid in the priests' robes, and he took her back to the secret area, where the party waited to regain spells. There was some thought of making a sortie, since they weren't totally wiped out, but it was decided that there was too much chance of people getting away, since all their spells that would stop runners were expired or expended. Not wanting to risk facing the doom dreamers without a consecrated area to sleep in, it was a long, sleepless night.
In the morning, the party decided to try to go to the 'dreamers' prison' where some evil chick kept a bunch of prisoners, with her 'dream hag' servants, which they'd figured were what were attacking them at night. They took out some ogre sentries before they could set off the alarm, then sprung an Evard's Black Tentacles trap and were jumped by a single vampire, a high-level paladin who proceeded to kick the living crap out of them.
The game ended with the vampire latched onto the very energy-drained Drunken Paladin's neck, about to suck out his blood or whatever vampires do, with Guinsette charmed and busy taking off her clothes, and the support people badly hurt and scattered from a vicious fireball, when darkness fell, obscuring everything.

After the game I spent some time organizing my magic cards, building a red goblin deck this time. I've been making a mono-color deck for each color as I sort out the cards that are no longer (as of Nov. 1st, at least) in type 2 and adding the new Onslaught cards. They're all sort of decent, for quickie weenie mono-decks.
Then I played a little Sly Cooper, but I'm a bit too icky from the annoying cold I still have to do well.
