Tonight, in Lance's game, several characters got everything they ever wanted, and we only just barely lived to regret it.

The previous game ended with a fearsome metal dog advancing on Largo (the Drayman), Reeeeai (the Kitty Monk) and Wren (the Sorceress Spider) after they'd just reactivated the Mythal of the drowned city of Silverlake, driving away Darien and the evil gu-ould. The anticipated slaughter was cut short when the Oracle of the Mythal appeared, and ordered the construct to stand down, recognizing the Guardian cloaks that two of the party had accepted.

But before they could gloat, and just as Ozzie (the Useless Blob) was returning from the temple where he'd taken refuge from the metal dog, a commotion outside got their attention, and they rushed outside to see what was going on. The remaining Draymen, with a new strongman as leader, were about to execute the prisoners, so Largo decided that now was the time for him to finally challenge for leadership (since Darien, who he'd been afraid to fight, had run off and defaulted). He was victorious in a matter of seconds.

His first act as leader of the Draymen was to remove the death-mark from his downed foe. His second act was to watch callously as the poor man bled to death. When he didn't become a bone warrior (possibly because the death-mark had been removed, and possibly because of the Mythal) he ordered the rest of his followers to remove the marks, and had the ones who refused thrown in prison.

Meanwhile, Reeeai and Wren freed the human prisoners, locating the one they'd been sent to rescue, who informed them that he was NOT going back to his power-crazed, evil father, and that instead he was staying here with Arial (another prisoner) who led a small group of Restorationists, dedicated to restoring the empire. They'd come here looking for the Staff of Law, which the party had already located in the dragon temple. Since Reeeai and Wren had been forced to dedicate themselves to the restoration of the empire when they'd taken up the position of Guardian, they felt compelled (in Wren's case, but a slight tightening of the clasp of her cloak around her neck) to bring them to the temple. Ozzie suggested taking them through the mirror to verify their good intentions (or at least, alignment) which was done. They passed.

In the temple, to everyone's surprise (except for Ozzie and Wren, who'd placed bets on which of the restorationists would turn out to be the next emporer) the staff of law released itself from its protective field and chose the very person the party had been sent to rescue as the emporer. With a new emporer, the empire was officially restored.

"Oh, shit." said Wren and the emporer in unison.

Of course, the Empire and Largo's Drayman tribe both claimed the sunken city of Silverlake and everything in it. While they negotiated, Wren, Ozzie, and Reeeai were sent to the nearby airport to recover any flying vessels that remained in working order, and clear out any non-undead non-gu-ould monsters that could have avoided being driven out by the mythal.

The first building was filled to the brim with fire-spraying beetles, and after an abortive attempt at a frontal assault through a second-story window, the beetles were vanquished by a demon Ex Machina, a spider-assassin of Wren's people who was, apparently, a powerful wizard and a greedy son of a bitch. With one gesture (and several hidden barrels of gunpowder) he annihilated the beetles, and (of course) laid claim to everything inside the building.

Ozzie, Reeeai, and Wren managed to secure a few choice items that the spider-wizard considered useless junk, and some new clothing for the emporer, who as yet was still dressed in his prisoner's rags.

The second building held the actual flying devices, as well as a large lizard and an insane automaton that refused to respect Reeai's authority, instead attempting to squish her with a massive sword. Ozzie and Wren took cover in one of the flying vessels, and Wren used its weaponry to destroy the construct. Ozzie was forbidden to touch the controls, since with their vision limited to 60', blobs make horrible pilots (and large craters).

The top floor of the second building held only one ship, but it was exceptionally large and important looking, so the team went in, bypassing the horribly complex combination lock and quickly locating the control chamber. The controls were impossibly complex, but Wren sat down in the captain's chair, determined to figure them out.

And, suddenly, she knew, and (after stunning Ozzie) entered a course, and the flying saucer rose quickly into the sky, leaving the city and, soon, the planet behind. Reeeai noticed that something was wrong, and knocked her silly, and the spider-wizard (who'd been tagging along for some unknown reason) managed to destroy the small machine that had been controlling Wren's mind. Which left them trapped on the ship as it flew farther and farther into space, with SOMETHING counting down.

With little faith in Wren's ability to control the ship, Ozzie desperately searched the other rooms, and found what looked like a tiny flying ship - a lifeboat. Everyone crowded in and set off as the flying saucer disappeared in a huge explosion of purple light behind them, and with great relief watched their homeworld rush back up to meet them.

Unfortunately, the lifeboats lacked the capability to land on their own, and while Reeeai and the spider-wizard managed to land lightly, Wren was badly injured, and Ozzie was splattered across a 30 foot radius. Which wasn't fatal, for a blob, but was extremely inconvenient, as to recover well enough to regain consciousness he needed to be wrung out from Wren's clothing and Reeeai's fur.

Even more unfortunately, the spot where the party had landed was far from anywhere they recognized. So Reeai decided to call on the Lord of the Lost, Mist the Deceiver, one of the dragons that owed the party a boon, and ask him to 'send us back to where we were'.

Which left the party back on the saucer, en-route to only the gods knew where. After a bit of searching, a facility on board the saucer to heal was discovered, and Wren was brought back to consciousness. Her plea was better phrased, and the four returned to the temple, but the sinister chuckling of the evil god left everyone unsettled.
