Magic and Grr

I did more magic noodling last night. I tested all the decks I was working on against the purple... er, the five-color sunburst/honden deck, and three of the four were able to consistently trounce it when not mana screwed. The ninjas could only beat it about 1 time in 3, though... they were able to bounce its big creatures, but lost horribly to Hondens.

Rats is still basically the same deck, with the Patron of the Nezumi, some throatslitters, and a couple Umezawa's Jittes added. Genju of the Fens was a thought, and might still be a good addition -- the deck's a bit light on small creatures.

The green/white precon deck was converted into something usable by making it more focused -- Zuberas + Spiritcaller (I think that's what it is, the one that you tap to sac three spirits to search for a legendary spirit) + every green or white legendary spirit I own (all four, whee) == every green or white legendary spirit I own in play, one per turn starting on turn five, even if I don't get any mana accel. Oyobi Who Split The Heavens is scary when you can get him out *before* you've emptied your hand. Kodama of the Center Tree is kind of 'Eh', on the other hand... and I'd much rather have a white dragon instead of a backup Oyobi. I considered off-color spirit legends, but neither Kyoki: Sanity's Eclipse or The Unspeakable seem worth the risk of drawing something I can never cast.

But the best is the red/white samurai deck, which mutated briefly into a samurai and spirits deck, before arriving at its current form, which is bereft of samurai. I think it shares exactly zero cards with its original incarnation, except for Sword of Light and Shadow, Moonring Mirror, Intrepid Hero, and Kumano Master Yamabushi.

4x Tallowisp
2x Arrest
2x Cage of Hands
2x Pacifism
4x Hearth Kami
4x Kami of Ancient Law
4x Pain Kami
3x Kami of False Hope
3x Frostling
3x Pteron Ghost
3x Soul Foundy
1x Sword of Light and Shadow
1x Kumano: Master Yamabushi
1x Intrepid Hero
1x Moonring Mirror

11x Plains
11x Mountain

Or it might be 12 plains and 10 mountains or something. The mana count is a bit low, but almost everything in the deck costs 3 or less, and the Tallowisps are very effective at putting all six enchantments in my hand in a few turns, after which the proportion of land left in the deck is that much higher.

In case it's not obvious, the theme of the deck is that every creature (except for the Tallowisps, the hero, and Kumano) can be sacrificed for some effect, which means little need to waste space on support cards. The enchantments don't count because you draw them for free with the Tallowisps.

This deck would be much better with more Swords of Light and Shadow, because it almost always has creatures in the graveyard to bring back. I'd take out the Intrepid Hero and some Frostlings first, I think... they're not as effective as Pain Kami, even though they're more efficient.

I also tried to watch some of the previously recorded episodes of SG-1 that I'd been putting off, only to find that every single one of them was a partial recording. #$^&@!!!

Okay, I have to say it -- DO NOT SIGN UP FOR COMCAST DVR. IT DOES NOT WORK RELIABLY. I'm going to have to replace it with a real ReplayTV or something as soon as... well, as soon as I get around to it, which might be never, because I'm that lazy. But I'm officially Not Satisfied. Grr.

Maybe I'll call in another complaint and get them to replace the unit again, even though it looks like buggy software or hardware instead of a defective unit, since this replacement unit is showing exactly the same symptoms as the original. Although I bet they just turn around and hand them back out to someone else.
